For the longest time, I UTTERLY FAILED at my attempts to log in and update here. But HUZZAH, my login, she works again!

Hey LJ world, is anyone still out there? I'm going to go stalk people's journals now, but if you're there, and you're on dreamwidth or whatever now, let me know so I can go poke you!

You know, as I was getting ready this morning, I was thinking to myself. "Hmm.. all the news has been about the election or the economy; not a word on the Bush administration's actions in the past few weeks other than the bailout. I wonder what they're getting away with while no one is paying attention."

No need to wonder any longer.

Yet another anti-choice 'rule'.

Maybe it's because of my background and career aspirations, but I find this particularly offensive. If you want to be doctor and don't want to perform elective abortions, DON'T GO INTO OB/GYN. If you ARE an anti-choice ob/gyn, WHY are you being such a pisser about referring your patients to someone else? Is it really OK for you to put your own values above the patient's needs to the point of NOT PROVIDING THEM WITH INFORMATION? According to the Bush Administration, it is. GIVE THEM A NAME, you TOSSER. Then there's the pharmacists who refuse to dispense prescriptions based on religious beliefs. DON'T BECOME A PHARMACIST if your religious beliefs prevent you from doing your job.

And don't get me started on this obscene Colorado Amendment that's trying to define life as beginning at conception. This would, of course, make ALL abortion, as well as the morning-after pill, murder. I wonder if 'abortion to preserve the mother's life' would be defined as 'justifiable homicide'. Probably it would just be homicide, since we're all just walking uteruses, waiting to be blessed with God's grace and fulfill our divine purpose as baby incubators. *fumes*

If it was you, plz let me know so I can say thank you and forgive me for not noticing sooner!

Distrust of the media has grown to the point where many people only trust the news if it comes from a comedian. Who do you trust more: Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart?

View 500 Answers

Jon Stewart. Colbert is a performer, his presence on the show is a character -- while its a great way of being critical of current political events, I think he'd go for the joke rather than the critical analysis if he had to choose. Stewart's humor is almost incidental to the critical commentary.

THIS is the most absurd thing ever. I mean, SERIOUSLY?

They also, apparently, make one from Titanic (yes, from the ACTUAL Titanic) steel. Unfortunately, you cant use it, because in order to preserve it, it must be kept at all times in an argon-filled, oxygen-free dome.

Ppl. Srsly. this is when I want to smack rich folks.

30-something L&O SVU icons behind the cut, along with their textless siblings. All Elliot, Olivia, or E/O in nature, from a wide smattering of season 7, 8, & 9 episodes, including Fault, Blinded, Starved, Paternity, and others. Experimenting with selective color led to some... interesting results.

Hey yeah, I'm back. When depressed and despairing, return to what gives you joy, I say. And icon-ing does that for me. ;p Below please find 27 Firefly quote icons from a hodgepodge of episodes and the BDM -- quote icons are great when you're trying to relearn Photoshop. Many of them turned out to be left-handed quote icons, which is interesting. ;p Let me know what worked and what didn't!

Okay, in the contrary way that I have, I had an HP epiphany while watching OoTP in the movie theater for the second time (and by the way, if there's anyone in NYC who wants a harry potter buddy to go watch the movie, let me know, I'll totally go see it again).

I realized (wer-doi) that this is THE LAST BOOK. ZOMG. *hyperventilates* I mean, it really hit me. So yes, I do want to read it, spoiler free. I'm going to have the rest of FOREVER to deal with the horror of what happens, so whatever. I'm going to read book 6 as soon as I find it in the many book boxes I have yet to unpack, but I WILL get DH on Saturday (or whenever -- I WANT to go to the crazy Harry Potter party, but I don't have anyone to go with, so I'll just get the book the next day like a normal grownup) and I WILL read it without Rach's clearance.

The thing is, there are spoilers EVERYWHERE on eljay. I mean, WTF? How on EARTH are there spoilers? The book is out there, sure, but has it been stoled? I thought they took care of that sort of thing when it happened with HBP.

So. Yeah. Going spoiler free. And buying Kleenex. Of course, this could just be because, as I said in my OoTP movie-post below, I am bouyed by my incredible ability to IGNORE COMPLETELY that which I don't like, 'ship-wise. I OWN DENIAL.

Oh, yeah. Got a 35T on the MCATs. So I'll hopefully be able to get into med school. Rock.

Flexing Photoshop muscles... looks like there's significant atrophy, but with enough PT, we expect a good response. i took that a bit too far, didn't I?

20 BSG icons from here and there within Season 1. Caps, except one of my own, are all from bsg-caps.com.

Found some oooold BSG S3 icons on my hard drive while I was making some S1 icons with my shiny new Photoshop. Since I'm not sure of the spoiler rule, I'm just going to post it in a separate post altogether. So, yeah, 6 icons, spoilers for Battlestar Galactica Season 3, though none for the finale.

January. Woe. )

Icons for [info]memento1
For [info]memento1, a paltry thank you. Your help in getting my PS7 up and running has been *invaluable*, and since one of my favorite hobbies is putzing around with it, you have no idea how happy you've made me. Really. There's no way to show you how grateful I am, really, so here's just a token -- one requested icon, one I though would amuse you. Again, many many thanks.

Okay, so. I've been in a funkety-funk for a while now, but i'm clawing my way out. Part of that climb is starting to apply for jobs, now that i'm done with my master's degree. Am applying for a communications job at Doctors Around The World -- not really qualified for it, since my work experience has been all labwork, and no NGO or communications work, but hey I did graduate with a degree in communications and work in a radio station throughout college, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Any advice on writing cover letters and such? Is there a downside to applying for a job you're not super-qualified for?

Also -- it's time for domain registration and host renewal again -- was wondering if anyone had a host they could recommend to me?

why didn't anyone TELL me that the davinci code had 'ship in it? I would totally have read it before now. I might actually have to go rent the movie now -- though the idea of amelie and tom hanks kissing kind of weirds me out.

laa. in other news, i can't find my photoshop or ms office disc, which is why you haven't seen anything in the way of icons (or fic) from me in such a great, great, long time. I'm hoping that they unveil themselves as I continue to unpack, though all my computer stuff was supposed to be in one box that i've already unearthed. it's worrying me a bit, but there's still hope! Otherwise, i'm just going to have to be a fandom spectator until i can afford to buy 'em again!

Regarding stargate:

okay, i didn't watch the sg1 series finale because rach's reaction sort of scared me, but i have to ask, is it worth it? or should i just stay in my happy little bubble of moebius being the last 'official' episode, where sam and jack got married in the two days that he wasn't in her chain of command and they're busy having a fabulous, snarky, long-distance marriage? or do i risk it to find out what really happened?

also, atlantis. no spoilers here, but OMG. Is 'THAT' rumor really true?

off to study for test!
